the bestest vay-kay-day
i woke up monday morning about 25 minutes after i would normally have to be at work. this feeling was awesome. i had skipped most of the features of the Newberry Caldera the day before in hopes of finding a campsite with a water view. mission accomplished, plus all the good stuff saved for the [...]

so very many volcanoes
ok, well, technically, the fossil beds weren’t a volcano, but merely formed as a result of a volcano’s activity, but for my purposes, it counts.
i made my way from the Sheep Rock installation of the fossil beds over to the Painted Hill portion. i hoped it would live up to its name. it did.
once [...]

i managed a restless night’s sleep on friday last. i was ready, but trying not to let my anxiety rob me of the pleasure of anticipation… i was moderately [...]

rain
and i for one am delighted to see it. not least because the brutality of the recent heatwave has been totally conquered. more, it is that i breathe more easily once the sky is washed clean. i bundle under my heavy down comforter. the sound of the traffic rolling by outside my window turns from [...]

marvellous weekend skyshow
out at my cousin’s for the fam damily reunion. delightful times. and on saturday night we were treated to
full moon rising over the mountain next door
the perseid’s still falling, so meteors
a stray satellite or two

lightning. streaking, forked, sideways
zero light pollution, aside from the campfire. lovely lovely. the random gale force winds at 5 [...]

silly things that touched me
and i am not talking about my karaoke partners from last night…
no, rather that this seemed to be a week steeped in a particular type of sentiment: a transient, elusive, and utterly singular sort that only makes sense to me, i’m sure.
i like to pretend to be tough and/or cool, but really i am all [...]

now hear this
it is too damn hot.
i have just never been in a situation where i felt it was necessary for temperatures to exceed 84° which is; hot enough for lounging, the enjoyment of various bodies of water (man made or natural!), and the consumption of mojito (or the mint-based alcoholic beverage of your choice) but not [...]
