Not me personally…
I just got back to my hometown after a short-lived ill-advised boy-chasing fugue. Being gone sharpened my appreciation for the place that I grew up. Now that someone else I know is leaving in a more permanent sense and at a more profound remove, I have been asking myself what I would want to see or do in the area that I’ve somehow never gotten around to.
And here’s my list:
Dinner at the Columbia Gorge Hotel: Romantic, decadent, and dramatic, I’ve always viewed this place as the loveliest feature of Hood River which is in itself very lovely indeed. I’m actually of to do this one tonight, so I’ll report back after…
See Bull Run: I was under the impression this place was locked down tight as the source of drinking water for the city at large, but it turns out there are spots which are accessible, and from what I hear, stunningly beautiful. I’m usually on my way to or from Mt. Hood when I see the turnoff and think… “I should get to that someday…â€
Play at Bandon Dunes: Ok, so technically this is a bit of a haul, but it’s closer to here than, say, San Francisco… The quintessential golf experience, and consistently ranked among the most beautiful and challenging courses in the world. I get ladywood when I think about it.
Zoobomb: Like a rollercoaster made of the street. I’m almost certain I would crash, but holy crap, what a way to go.
Darcelle’s: Surprising, given my penchant for frequenting the houses of ill repute in this town, even I find it odd I’ve never been to the show of shows with the Queen of the Queens.
Bonneville Hot Springs Resort: I have done this one, but it was just so amazing that I would simply insist on going again. Spring fed hot tubs on private balconies, an Olympic swimming pool with no chlorine in sight. It was lush, getting out of the tub feeling soft and refreshed rather than chemically violated.
Mt Hood Railroad: Train ride through blooming orchards. Need I say more?
Climb South Sister: This one would clearly require some planning, and some training, but I think it would be well worth doing, blisters be damned.
What am I forgetting??
